On the passage of Greenwich and the western edge of the forest of the Double, La Roche-Chalais, green resort, is ideally located at the crossroads of four departments: Dordogne, Gironde, Charente, Charente Maritime and four former provinces: Périgord, Guyenne, Saintonge and French Aquitaine.

 

Standing on a limestone promontory where the "La Roche", this village in the Dordogne within the Natura 2000 dominates the river Dronne, "the most beautiful river in France" according to Elysee RECLUS, geographer (who grew up in Roche Chalais ...).

 

Associated with St-Michel-et-Leparon Lécluse and St-Michel-de-Rivière, the canton of St Aulaye (Senta Eulalia) has 3003 inhabitants and its size makes it the largest municipality in the department.
